For Such A Time As This: A Poem

For Such A Time As This: A Poem

it’s so easy to overlook it,
to miss the idea that
you’re here now,
and if you weren’t,
you wouldn’t know
anyone you know.

imagine the odds,
(the flap of a butterfly’s wings, the wind patterns)
the privilege,
of sitting next to that
stranger on the train,
of being able to reach out and love
anyone in sight.

one hundred years off,
and you’d miss them all.

yet, I have this feeling that
no matter where the Spirit placed me,
i still might’ve met the colors in my neighbor’s laugh,
known the shape of my friends’ hearts;
felt the same thread through us all.

Esther wondered why she walked
the palace halls
at “such a time as this,”
and I think
that if you realize you’re here,
now,
you wouldn’t wonder
at all.
