Current Events: A Poem

It may be the browness
    blackness,

leaness of his (their) face. Flower
of earth & fruit
    of many wombs.

Spirit, I saw longing. I understand
    discolored

and mankind the same way—
there are miracles
    between the guilts.

Familiarity is difficult today.
    I will respond

even if we don’t understand
each other. See violence
    and bloodshed:

for us and our future good? Constant
    propaganda:

it is always propaganda. We can no longer
look away from the brutality
    fed as merely facts.

This is my point of view, observed
    reality. We are aware

of the martyrdom within hope. I tell myself:
never change. But this longing
    I mentioned sometimes

looks less like death and more like
    holding on.
